Caleb Serong Breaks Fremantle Record with Outstanding Performance
On Sunday, Caleb Serong made history by smashing Fremantle‘s record for most disposals in a single game, showcasing a stellar performance that left fans and teammates in awe. Serong’s remarkable feat, totaling an impressive 46 disposals, surpassed the previous record of 44 set by former captains Peter Bell and David Mundy.
The 23-year-old midfielder’s dominance was evident from the outset, amassing a staggering 14 touches in the opening quarter despite a slow start for Fremantle. As the game progressed, Serong continued to shine with 11 disposals in the second quarter, seven in the third, and a final burst of 14 in the last term.
Upon learning of Serong’s record-breaking achievement, team captain Alex Pearce humorously acknowledged the feat, emphasizing the magnitude of the midfielder’s impact with a casual remark: ‘That’s a lot of touches.’ Pearce credited Serong’s exceptional performance to an inspiring pre-season, highlighting the player’s unwavering commitment to training and preparation.
Pearce lauded Serong’s dedication during the off-season, noting that the midfielder’s work ethic had a positive influence on the entire team. Describing Serong’s pre-season as one of the best he had ever witnessed, Pearce expressed confidence in the midfielder’s potential for future success.
Despite finishing seventh in last year’s Brownlow Medal count, Serong’s captain hopes that the midfielder remains under the radar, allowing him to continue delivering standout performances. Pearce also praised Fremantle’s midfield depth, acknowledging the contributions of players like Fyfey, Andy Brayshaw, and Will Brodie in enhancing the team’s overall performance.
