Cubs Rally to Defeat Reds 11-8 in Series Finale

CINCINNATI, Ohio — The Chicago Cubs overcame a five-run deficit to defeat the Cincinnati Reds 11-8 on Sunday, May 25, sealing a three-game series victory at Great American Ball Park.
The Reds had initially taken control of the game, scoring four runs in both the first and fifth innings to lead 8-3. However, the Cubs’ offense exploded in the late innings, scoring 21 runs across all three games in the series.
The Cubs jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first against Reds starter Nick Lodolo before the Reds struck back. Austin Hays and Jose Trevino contributed key hits to push Cincinnati ahead 3-2 after the first inning and later extend the lead with more runs in the fifth.
However, the game shifted dramatically in the eighth inning when Reds relief pitcher Taylor Rogers surrendered a solo home run to Chicago’s Reese McGuire, tying the game at eight. Rogers was quickly pulled after allowing two more Cubs to get on base.
Seiya Suzuki then smashed a three-run home run to give Chicago an 11-8 lead, marking a disappointing end for the Reds. Lodolo’s performance left him with a no-decision, while Cubs starter Ben Brown was charged with eight earned runs in his outing.
This loss pushed the Reds to 26-28 on the season, leaving them 6.5 games behind the Cubs in the competitive NL Central. Cincinnati’s struggle continued against divisional foes, marking back-to-back series losses.
The Reds will now travel to Kansas City to face the Royals, starting a three-game set on Monday.
