Deebo Samuel Returns to Action for San Francisco 49ers Against New England Patriots
San Francisco 49ers star wide receiver Deebo Samuel is set to return to the field today after recovering from a calf injury. Samuel missed the team’s Week 3 matchup against the Los Angeles Rams, following an injury sustained during a Week 2 loss to the Minnesota Vikings.
Throughout the week, Samuel demonstrated significant progress, participating in limited practice sessions on Thursday and Friday. Although he was officially listed as questionable for the Week 4 game against the New England Patriots, ESPN’s NFL insider Adam Schefter reported that he is expected to play.
“I mean, that [a two-week absence] is what the case was,” said Samuel when speaking with reporters on Friday. “But I came back feeling pretty good, and we went to practice the past two days still feeling good, so we’ll just see how it goes.”
The 49ers have been dealing with a series of injuries early in the 2024 season. Notably, running back Christian McCaffrey has been sidelined with calf and Achilles issues and was placed on injured reserve on September 14. Additionally, tight end George Kittle missed last week’s game against the Rams due to his own injury setbacks but has no such designation heading into this weekend’s clash.
In the absence of Samuel during Week 3, wide receiver Jauan Jennings impressed with a standout performance, achieving 11 catches for 175 yards and three touchdowns, equaling a milestone previously reached by 49ers legends Terrell Owens and Jerry Rice.
For Week 4, the matchup against the Patriots is scheduled for a 4:05 p.m. ET kick-off at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, California. Fans in the United States can tune into the game on FOX and WFXT.
The 49ers will hope that the return of Samuel, complemented by a healthier roster, will pivot their season positively as they face the Patriots.
