Donyell Malen Set for Aston Villa Move as BVB Agrees to $25M Deal
DORTMUND, Germany — Borussia Dortmund‘s Donyell Malen is on the verge of joining Aston Villa in the Premier League after the Bundesliga club agreed to a transfer deal worth €25 million ($27 million) plus potential bonuses. The 25-year-old Dutch forward has been granted permission to discuss personal terms with the English club, marking a significant step in the transfer process.
Malen, who joined Dortmund from PSV Eindhoven in 2021 for €30 million, has scored 39 goals in 132 appearances for the German side. His potential move to Aston Villa would mark a return to England, where he previously spent time in Arsenal‘s youth academy before failing to break into the first team.
“With Donny, we have to wait and see if there’s any movement,” Dortmund head coach Nuri Sahin said earlier this week, hinting at the ongoing negotiations. On Monday, Dortmund confirmed that Malen had been released from team duties to engage in talks with another club, ruling him out of their upcoming match against Kiel.
According to reports from Sky Sports and Voetbal International, Malen has already reached a personal agreement with Aston Villa. The deal includes an initial €25 million fee, with an additional €5 million in performance-based bonuses, €3 million of which are considered easily achievable.
Malen’s departure would end a three-and-a-half-year stint at Dortmund, where he became a key figure in their attack. His move to Aston Villa could provide the Premier League side with a much-needed boost as they aim to climb the table after finishing eighth last season.
Meanwhile, other transfer news from the Bundesliga includes Bayern Munich loaning 19-year-old Arijon Ibrahimovic to Lazio Roma and Fortuna Düsseldorf securing Moritz-Broni Kwarteng on loan from VfL Bochum. In France, Paris St. Germain is reportedly closing in on a deal for Napoli‘s Kvicha Kvaratskhelia, with a fee of €65 million plus bonuses being discussed.
