Dutch Footballer Quincy Promes Arrested In Dubai On Extradition Warrant

Dutch footballer Quincy Promes has been arrested in Dubai at the request of the Dutch Public Prosecution Service, opening the path for his extradition to the Netherlands.

Promes, who plays for Spartak Moscow, was taken into custody two weeks ago at Dubai airport after he fled from a traffic accident in the United Arab Emirates.

The 32-year-old was set to return to Russia this week with his club after settling a fine, but reports in the Telegraaf indicated that he was re-arrested on Wednesday evening.

Promes received a six-year jail sentence in absentia in February for his involvement in smuggling over a tonne of cocaine into the Netherlands through Antwerp.

Previously, Promes was convicted of assaulting his nephew at a family gathering in 2020 before making a move from Ajax to Spartak Moscow in a transfer worth €8.5 million.

The Dutch News service has been vital in reporting on these incidents and keeping the public informed, relying on the generous support of its readers through donations.
