The Dynamic Duo: Sam Quek and Tom Mairs On Life, Fame, and Family

Olympic champion Sam Quek, renowned for her gold medal victory with the British women’s hockey team at the 2016 Summer Olympics, has once again captured public attention. This time, Quek is making waves with her performances on the television show ‘Strictly Come Dancing,’ where she is partnered with professional dancer Nikita Kuzmin.

Beyond the dance floor, Quek’s career has flourished as she transitioned from athlete to television presenter. She has hosted sports programs covering American football, rugby union, field hockey, and football on platforms such as BBC Sport and BT Sport. In addition to her hosting duties, she was a finalist on ‘Celebrity MasterChef’ in 2020 and has served as a team captain on the BBC One sports panel show ‘Question of Sport’ since 2021.

Quek’s personal life, particularly her marriage to Tom Mairs, has drawn intrigue as well. Mairs, a property entrepreneur, gained fame through his appearance on the reality show ‘The Secret Millionaire’ in 2010. The couple met after attending the same school, Calday Grange Grammar in West Kirby, and later married in 2018 at Chester Racecourse.

In March 2021, Quek gave birth to their first child, Molly Doris Mairs, after experiencing a challenging labor. “We got to 6cm [dilated] at midnight, and it went on for hours,” Tom Mairs recounted to OK Magazine. “The consultant kept coming in, and I wasn’t moving from 6cm. The baby’s head was starting to swell,” he added, explaining why a caesarean section became necessary.

The couple also faced a heartbreaking miscarriage shortly before Molly’s birth. Sam Quek shared her feelings of guilt in an interview, admitting, “I didn’t want to speak to anyone. I had guilt and shame that it was my fault.”

In 2022, they welcomed their second child, a son named Isaac Gregory Mairs, into the world. The couple’s experiences, both triumphant and challenging, have not only shaped their public personas but also cemented their bond as partners and parents.

Quek’s performances on ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ have been a family affair, with Mairs vocal about his support. Despite some low scores from the judges, Mairs humorously criticized the show’s famous ‘curse,’ joking about who his wife might end up dancing with.
