Prime Minister Narendra Modi embarked on a unique spiritual journey in Kanyakumari, Tamil Nadu, as he commenced a 45-hour meditation at the historic Vivekananda Rock Memorial. The meditation session began on Thursday at the renowned Dhyan Mandapam where Swami Vivekananda himself had meditated over a century ago.

Before reaching the memorial, PM Modi first offered prayers at the sacred Bhagavathi Amman Temple in Kanyakumari. This visit followed the conclusion of his extensive seven-phase Lok Sabha election campaign, with his last campaign event held in Punjab‘s Hoshiarpur in preparation for the final voting phase scheduled for June 1.

Clad in traditional attire, PM Modi donned a ‘dhoti’ with an off-white shawl as he undertook his spiritual sojourn. The journey included a visit to the Sree Kanyakumari Bhagavathi temple for prayer and meditation at the Vivekananda Rock Memorial.

Significant in both religious and historical contexts, Vivekananda Rock Memorial is the same site where Swami Vivekananda achieved his vision for a developed India after three days of deep meditation. Legend holds that Goddess Parvati herself had meditated at this very place while awaiting Lord Shiva.

Kanyakumari, situated at the southernmost tip of India, marks the convergence of the country’s eastern and western coastlines. It symbolizes the meeting point of the Indian Ocean, the Bay of Bengal, and the Arabian Sea, making it a place of substantial cultural and geographical importance.

PM Modi’s meditation period carries added significance as it precedes the announcement of the Lok Sabha election results on June 4. Notably, this spiritual retreat mirrors a similar visit made by the Prime Minister in 2019, before the Lok Sabha elections, highlighting temples like the Sri Arulmigu Ramanathaswamy Temple and Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple.

PM Modi’s active campaign in South India, especially for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), reveals his strategic efforts to engage with voters and promote Tamil culture. The visit to Kanyakumari and undertaking of meditation exemplify the fusion of spirituality, heritage, and politics in a key location.
