Eurovision 2024: Viewership Trends, Popular Reasons for Watching, and Voting Beliefs Revealed in YouGov Survey
With the Eurovision 2024 set to kick off soon, latest findings from the YouGov Eurotrack survey unveil intriguing insights into viewership patterns, motivations for tuning in, and beliefs surrounding voting.
In the hosting nation of Sweden, enthusiasm for Eurovision is palpable, with a resounding 50% indicating they will most likely watch the event this year.
Not far behind, Italy and Spain tie at 40% for anticipated viewership, while Britain shows a modest increase at 28%, with Germany ranking as the least inclined to watch at 23%.
The survey also highlights a shift in interest, with a noticeable 13-point decline in German viewership since 2019, contrasting with Britain’s 5-point upsurge this year.
Across the eight countries surveyed, most respondents have watched Eurovision before, except for Italy at 47%, with avid viewership observed in Spain, Sweden, and Denmark.
In France, only 19% deem Eurovision a significant event, in stark contrast to Sweden where 64% view it as a major happening.
The Brits, known for their penchant for irony, notably watch Eurovision for amusing commentary, with 15% watching to poke fun at the event, in contrast to other countries where the focus is more on music appreciation.
When it comes to voting beliefs, Spain stands out, with 41% suggesting that their countrymen vote based on political motives, a stark difference compared to Switzerland, Sweden, and Germany where such beliefs are minimal.
Overall, the survey sheds light on the varied reasons for Eurovision viewership and the diverse perspectives on voting behavior across European nations.
