Florida Voters Decide on Amendment 3: Latest Polls and Outlook on Recreational Marijuana Legalization
Florida voters are currently deciding the fate of Amendment 3, a ballot measure that proposes the legalization of recreational marijuana for adults 21 and older. As of the latest updates, polling data has shown varying levels of support for the amendment, though it consistently indicates majority approval.
A recent Emerson College Polling/The Hill survey released last month found that 60% of voters support Amendment 3, while 34% are opposed, and 6% remain undecided. This figure is crucial because Florida requires a 60% vote threshold for constitutional amendments to pass.
The Florida Chamber of Commerce, which opposes the measure, conducted a poll last month that showed 57% of likely voters support the reform, just shy of the necessary threshold. An earlier survey from the chamber in September 2024 found 59% support, and a poll from the James Madison Institute in August 2024 indicated 64% of likely voters were in favor of legalization.
Despite the majority support, the outcome remains uncertain due to the high vote threshold required. The initiative has garnered significant endorsements, including from former President Donald Trump, while facing opposition from key figures such as Governor Ron DeSantis and the state Republican Party.
If approved, Amendment 3 would allow adults to possess up to three ounces of cannabis and five grams of marijuana concentrate for personal use. It would also enable medical cannabis dispensaries to sell to recreational users and authorize state-licensed businesses to cultivate, process, and distribute marijuana products.
