Former Liberal MP Kim Rudd Passes Away at 66 After Battling Ovarian Cancer
Former Liberal Member of Parliament Kim Rudd has sadly passed away at the age of 66 after a courageous battle with ovarian cancer, as confirmed by an online obituary. She breathed her last on Tuesday in a palliative care facility in Cobourg, Ontario.
Kim Rudd represented the newly formed electoral district of Northumberland-Peterborough-South from 2015 to 2019. During her tenure, she served as the parliamentary secretary to the Minister of Natural Resources.
She was a key figure in the parliamentary health research caucus and sat on the Finance and Natural Resources committees in the House of Commons.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau extended his condolences to Kim Rudd’s family and friends, emphasizing her relentless advocacy for Canadian interests. He praised her work on pressing issues such as affordable housing, rural broadband services, and healthcare.
Several Liberal ministers, including Karina Gould and Justin Trudeau, acknowledged Kim Rudd’s impactful contributions in their social media tributes. Gould highlighted Rudd’s advocacy for women’s health and her efforts in fighting cancer through Cancer de l’ovaire Canada.
Before her political career, Kim Rudd held the position of president at the Cobourg Chamber of Commerce. She was recognized for her community leadership with an award at the RBC Canadian Women Entrepreneur Awards and co-founded a daycare facility in Cobourg.
Kim Rudd’s online obituary mentioned her extensive public service background and involvement in numerous charitable and local sports organizations. She is survived by her husband Tom, daughters Alison and Stefanie, and four grandchildren.
