Former LSU Football Star Kyren Lacy Charged in Fatal Hit-and-Run Crash
THIBODAUX, La. — Former LSU wide receiver Kyren Lacy turned himself in to authorities Sunday night on charges related to a fatal hit-and-run crash that killed a 78-year-old man and injured two others last month. Lacy, 24, was released on $151,000 bail after being booked into the Lafourche Parish Correctional Complex on charges of negligent homicide, felony hit-and-run with death, and reckless operation of a vehicle.
According to Louisiana State Police, the incident occurred on Dec. 17, 2024, when Lacy allegedly drove a 2023 Dodge Charger at a high speed on Louisiana Highway 20, illegally passing vehicles in a no-passing zone. Police said Lacy crossed the centerline, forcing a northbound pickup truck to swerve and brake abruptly. A 2017 Kia Cadenza behind the pickup also swerved to avoid Lacy’s vehicle, colliding head-on with a southbound 2017 Kia Sorento.
Herman Hall, a passenger in the Sorento, died from injuries sustained in the crash. Hall, a 78-year-old former Marine from Thibodaux, Louisiana, was pronounced dead at a local hospital. The drivers of the Cadenza and Sorento suffered moderate injuries.
Police allege Lacy fled the scene without stopping to render aid, call emergency services, or report his involvement. Investigators said they were in contact with Lacy and his attorney prior to his surrender. Lacy’s agent, Rocky Arceneaux, stated that his client is “fully cooperating with the authorities.”
Lacy, a Thibodaux native, played two seasons at the University of Louisiana before transferring to LSU in 2022. In his final season with the Tigers, he recorded 58 catches for 866 yards and nine touchdowns. He declared for the NFL draft on Dec. 19, two days after the crash.
LSU Football declined to comment, citing respect for the legal process. Lacy’s future in professional football remains uncertain as he faces serious criminal charges.
