Former No. 2 Pick Chase Young Set To Join Saints On One Year Deal

Former No. 2 overall pick of the 2020 NFL draft, Chase Young, is on the move again, this time to the New Orleans Saints, where he is expected to sign a one-year, $13 million deal. The deal, fully guaranteed, marks Young’s second relocation within five months.

Young spent the latter part of the 2023 season with the San Francisco 49ers after a trade from the Washington Commanders. The 49ers’ acquisition of Young contributed to their NFC title win and Super Bowl LVIII appearance, though falling short in the championship game.

During his stint with the 49ers, Young tallied 18 tackles, including 3.5 sacks. Notably, he sacked Patrick Mahomes in the Super Bowl, ending the season tied for 18th in total QB pressures.

The deal with the Saints places Young in a new environment alongside veteran edge rusher Cameron Jordan and under coach Dennis Allen‘s defense. With a focus on strengthening their defensive performance, Young will need to showcase his abilities paired with another established pass rusher.

Young’s career began with accolades, earning him Defensive Rookie of the Year in 2020. Despite injury setbacks in subsequent seasons, he now has the opportunity to kickstart his season in New Orleans with the singular focus of hunting quarterbacks.
