Fort Erie's Matty Matheson Wins Emmy For 'the Bear'

Fort Erie‘s hometown chef and restaurateur, Matty Matheson, had a remarkable night at the Emmy Awards, where his show ‘The Bear‘ triumphed, securing the outstanding comedy series accolade. Matheson, known for his roles as an actor and producer on the F.X. series, delivered a memorable acceptance speech that quickly went viral. Unexpectedly, Matheson’s co-star on ‘The Bear,’ Ebon Moss-Bachrach, interrupted the speech by sharing a passionate kiss with him, creating quite a buzz online and gracing the cover of the Los Angeles Times.

‘The Bear’ emerged as one of the evening’s big winners, being honored with a total of six trophies. Nonetheless, it was Moss-Bachrach’s heartfelt moment with Matheson that has garnered substantial attention, overshadowing the show’s achievements.

In ‘The Bear,’ Matheson portrays the character of Neil Fak, a former maintenance man turned front-of-house staff at the renowned Beef of Chicagoland restaurant. The sitcom recently secured the title of Best Comedy Series at both the Golden Globes and Critics Choice Awards, solidifying its place as a hit production.

However, Matheson’s success extends beyond his involvement in ‘The Bear.’ The international chef has hosted several popular cooking shows on Vice, such as ‘Dead Set on Life.’ Additionally, Matheson’s string of thriving restaurants in Toronto, including Rizzo’s House of Parm in Crystal Beach, have established him as a culinary force.

The marketing director of Matheson’s company expressed immense excitement for the Emmy win, emphasizing the pride felt across the entire staff. Michelle Cyr, the marketing director, noted the strong connection between the team and Matheson’s family, who are frequently present in the restaurants, further heightening the jubilation. Owners of Southsides Patio Bar and Grill, where Matheson began his career in the restaurant industry, also shared in the pride and excitement, highlighting his humble origins.

Fort Erie’s Mayor, Wayne Redekop, conveyed his congratulations to Matheson, referring to him as a testament to hometown success. The community of Fort Erie revels in the accomplishments of their beloved chef and applauds his continued achievements in the entertainment world.
