The Gujarat High Court has taken a decision to lift the ban on the streaming of the film ‘Maharaj’ on the popular platform, Netflix. This decision comes after initial controversies surrounding the release of the movie, which marks the debut of Junaid Khan, son of Bollywood actor Aamir Khan.

Justice Sangeeta K. Vishen, who was overseeing the case, watched the movie and concluded that the film, revolving around the 1862 Maharaj Libel Case events, does not have any intention of offending any specific community. The film had received certification from the Central Board for Film Certification, indicating its adherence to guidelines.

Originally slated for release on June 14, ‘Maharaj’ faced a legal hurdle when a group of businessmen raised concerns about potential religious sentiments being hurt among the Vaishnav community. The court’s ruling now paves the way for Netflix to resume streaming the movie.

‘Maharaj’ features a stellar cast including Jaideep Ahlawat and Sharvari Wagh alongside Junaid Khan. The film is based on a book by writer Saurabh Shah, delving into the historical court case of 1862 involving Karsandas Mulji and Jadunathji.

Aamir Khan’s production house, YRF Entertainment, has bankrolled the film under the direction of Aditya Chopra. This development brings clarity to the controversies that surrounded the release of ‘Maharaj’ and marks a victory for the filmmakers and supporters of artistic expression.
