Hugo Lloris Reflects on Spurs’ Europa League Win and Managerial Change

London, England — Former Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Hugo Lloris shared his thoughts on the club’s recent Europa League triumph and the subsequent managerial change that surprised him. Spurs clinched the title with a 1-0 victory over Manchester United in Bilbao last month, ending a 17-year trophy drought.
Lloris, who spent 12 years with Tottenham before joining Los Angeles FC, expressed his delight at the club finally securing silverware. “I am really pleased. I am really happy for the club, for the people at the club, for the players,” Lloris said, referring to a longstanding quest for a trophy.
He praised former head coach Ange Postecoglou for his achievements, noting that winning the Europa League brought joy to the Spurs community. However, Lloris acknowledged that Postecoglou was replaced by Thomas Frank following a challenging Premier League season that saw the team finish in 17th place.
When asked about the managerial change, Lloris said, “No, nothing surprises me in football.” He emphasized Postecoglou’s contributions, stating, “What he did was remarkable. He brought this Europa League trophy and a lot of pride to the Spurs community.”
Lloris believes that winning the Europa League can pave the way for further success, as the club aims to build on this achievement. “Hopefully it will make their shoulders a little bit lighter for the future, and it’s also a moment to build on this success for Spurs,” he said.
Reflecting on Tottenham’s grind to obtain a trophy, Lloris expressed hope for the future. “I hope they are going to build momentum and get even more competitive in all the competitions they are involved in,” he added. Lloris’ optimism reflects a desire for the team to capitalize on this victory and strive for greater accomplishments moving forward.
