Isaiah Salinda, Kevin Velo Lead Zurich Classic After Round One

AVONDALE, La. — The 2025 Zurich Classic of New Orleans is in full swing at TPC Louisiana, with the second round set to begin on Friday. The first round concluded with rookies Isaiah Salinda and Kevin Velo taking the lead after posting a staggering 14-under 58, the lowest score in Zurich Classic history.
Defending champions Rory McIlroy and Shane Lowry started strong as well, finishing tied for 28th with an 8-under 64. McIlroy and Lowry now find themselves six shots off the lead as they head into the more challenging format of foursomes for the next round.
“It’s a unique event that allows for incredible team dynamics and strategy among players,” said McIlroy. The pairing format shifts from four-ball to foursomes, creating a contrast in scoring techniques as competitors navigate the notoriously tricky course.
The tournament, which has a prize purse of $9.2 million, features 80 teams of two in a mix of formats over four days. Each team aims for the top 33 spots and ties, which will advance to the weekend.
The second round will be broadcasted live on Golf Channel starting at 3 p.m. ET, with earlier streaming coverage available on NBC Sports platforms starting at 8:45 a.m. ET. Golf fans can also enjoy the tournament through ESPN+ for exclusive coverage.
With the competition heating up, all eyes will be on whether Salinda and Velo can maintain their lead going into the weekend, as the defending champs look to overcome a sizable deficit.
