LOS ANGELES, Calif. — Jen Salke is stepping down as the head of Amazon MGM Studios, a pivotal change announced via an internal email from Mike Hopkins, head of Prime Video, on March 27, 2025.

Salke joined Amazon in 2018 and became a key figure in the studio’s transformation into a leading producer of award-winning films and series. During her tenure, she oversaw a variety of successful projects, including the acquisition of MGM in 2021 and the launch of the critically debated television series “The Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power.”

In the internal memo, Hopkins praised Salke’s contributions, stating, “Original films and series served as the foundation of Prime Video’s growth into one of the world’s leading entertainment destinations.” He recognized her as a vital force behind the studio’s success and expressed gratitude for her leadership and vision.

As she departs the role of head of Amazon MGM Studios, Salke plans to establish a new production outfit under an overall first-look deal that will keep her within the Amazon ecosystem, allowing her to continue collaborating on upcoming projects.

“When I look at the teams we’ve put in place, our amazing leaders, and the incredible slate of films and shows we’ve got in the pipeline, I realized now is that moment,” Salke said in the memo. She emphasized her desire to remain close to the creative community that she has been a significant part of throughout her career.

With Salke stepping away, there will be no direct successor named. The leadership structure will shift, with Courtenay Valenti, head of film, and Vernon Sanders, head of TV, taking charge of their respective departments and reporting directly to Hopkins.

Salke’s management style has been characterized by her commitment to fostering environments that enable creativity. Under her leadership, the studio has released several hit films, including “Road House” and “The Idea of You,” as well as popular series like “Fallout” and “Reacher.”

Moving forward, Hopkins stated that the team would take the next few weeks to discuss the long-term structure for Amazon MGM Studios, but noted the decision not to fill the head of studio position aligns with Amazon’s strategy to streamline operations.

Reflecting on her tenure, Salke expressed excitement about her next chapter, stating, “I’m looking forward to continuing doing what I love, cultivating talent, supporting their vision, and bringing compelling stories to audiences around the world.”

As the entertainment landscape continues to evolve rapidly, industry insiders will be watching closely how Amazon MGM Studios adapts to these changes post-Salke.
