Jordan Spieth Disqualified At The Genesis Invitational For Scorecard Error

Jordan Spieth faced disqualification at The Genesis Invitational held at the prestigious Riviera Country Club due to an incorrect scorecard he signed following the second round of play. The three-time major winner mistakenly recorded a 3 instead of a 4 on the par-3 fourth hole, ultimately leading to his unfortunate elimination from the tournament.

Spieth, who had shown promise with an opening round 66 at The Genesis Invitational, struggled in the second round with a 73. His round took a turn for the worse as he closed with a double-bogey on the challenging finishing hole at Riviera, compounding his scoring error.

Having previously secured the top spot in the world rankings and claimed the FedExCup title in 2015, Spieth’s disqualification comes amidst a season where he had been showing signs of a strong comeback. Notable recent performances include a third-place finish at The Sentry at Kapalua and a sixth-place finish at the WM Phoenix Open.

The disqualification at The Genesis Invitational marks a setback for Spieth, who had been among the contenders after the first round, sitting just two strokes behind leader Patrick Cantlay. With the disqualification, Spieth’s time at the tournament was cut short, limiting his play to just the initial two days of competition.

Despite his recent success, the scoring mistake at The Genesis Invitational now sees Spieth out of contention at the event. With the cut line set at 1-over or better, a total of 51 players will advance to the weekend rounds without Spieth in the mix.
