Judy Greer Opens Up About Absence from Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania
Judy Greer, who portrayed Maggie Lang in the first two Ant-Man films, has opened up about her absence from the 2023 sequel, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. In a recent interview, Greer expressed her disappointment at not being included in the film, which saw Paul Rudd‘s Scott Lang and Evangeline Lilly‘s Hope Van Dyne return to face the multiversal threat of Kang the Conqueror.
“I don’t know why I wasn’t in Quantumania, by the way, but I went to the movie theater and saw it,” Greer said. “I don’t know why they didn’t put me in it, but I really wanted to be in it. It’s so much fun.” Greer’s character, Maggie Lang, is the ex-wife of Scott Lang and the mother of Cassie Lang, played by Abby Ryder Fortson in the first two films and Kathryn Newton in Quantumania.
Greer wasn’t the only Ant-Man alum to miss out on the third installment. Michael Peña and Tip “T.I.” Harris, who played Scott’s X-Con Security crew members Luis and Dave, respectively, were also absent, as was Bobby Cannavale’s Jim Paxton, Maggie’s second husband. David Dastmalchian, who played Kurt in the first two films, returned but in a different role, voicing the character Veb.
Despite her absence, Greer remains hopeful for Maggie Lang’s future in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. She revealed that she had previously lobbied director Peyton Reed for her character to gain superpowers. “I was begging Peyton Reed for a superpower. I was like, ‘Please, please, can I, like, run into someone on the street and get a superpower? Please, please, please?'” Greer recalled. “And him and Paul [Rudd] would laugh at me, and then they never gave me one.”
While Greer’s return as Maggie Lang seems unlikely, she did reprise a voice role in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 as War Pig, indicating that Marvel Studios is still open to working with her. The Ant-Man trilogy, including Quantumania, is available to stream on Disney+.
