Keke Palmer Recalls Tense Encounter with Ryan Murphy Over Scheduling Conflict on ‘Scream Queens’
Actress Keke Palmer has opened up about a contentious incident involving renowned producer Ryan Murphy during her time on the TV series “Scream Queens.” In her upcoming book, “Master of Me,” Palmer recounts a heated phone call with Murphy after she chose to prioritize other business commitments over a sudden request to work on a scheduled day off.
Palmer, who starred in both seasons of Murphy’s “Scream Queens,” had planned to use her day off to attend other business meetings. However, production shifts led the crew to ask her to come in on that day. Despite the request, Palmer decided to keep her prior commitments, a decision that did not sit well with Murphy. The producer “ripped” into her during an animated phone call, which Palmer described as feeling like being in the dean’s office.
“He was like, ‘I’ve never seen you behave like this. I can’t believe that you, out of all people, would do something like this,’” Palmer recalled in an interview with the Los Angeles Times. Despite the intense conversation, Palmer thought the issue had been resolved after their talk. However, a co-star later indicated that the situation was more severe than Palmer had perceived.
In her book, Palmer elaborates on her reasoning for prioritizing her other obligations, emphasizing that she views herself as a business entity, much like Murphy does. “I’m still not sure Ryan cared, or got it, and that’s okay, because he was just centering his business, which isn’t a problem to me,” Palmer wrote. “But what I do know is even if he didn’t care, and even if I never work with him again, he knows that I, too, see myself as a business.”
Murphy has not responded to requests for comment on the matter. Palmer’s book, “Master of Me,” is set to release on November 19.
