Kierran Moseley Leads Norths Devils in NRL State Championship Battle
Kierran Moseley returns to the forefront of Australian rugby league, leading the Norths Devils in the highly anticipated NRL State Championship clash against the Newtown Jets at Accor Stadium. Moseley, who has previously experienced this significant day twice, is eager for a triumphant outcome this time around.
Moseley’s past encounters in the championship were as a player for Penrith in 2014 against the Northern Pride and, more recently, part of the Devils’ team which succumbed to the Panthers two years ago. His light-hearted demeanor at Accor Stadium, shared with former Penrith teammates, reflects a seasoned player familiar with the spotlight.
The presence of prominent figures like musician The Kid Laroi, preparing for his pre-game performance, adds to the atmosphere as the Devils cross paths with the Penrith side, also readying for the NRL grand final. Moseley took some time to reminisce with Isaah Yeo, Penrith’s captain, about their shared early days in professional rugby.
Moseley began his NRL journey at Penrith, debuting as a 20-year-old before transferring to the Gold Coast Titans and subsequently strengthening the Norths Devils in the Hostplus Cup. His strategic play as a hooker has been pivotal in the Devils securing premiership victories in 2022 and 2024.
The NRL State Championship, however, remains an unclaimed title for Moseley, but his resolve and the Devils’ confidence remain unshaken. Alongside Jack Ahearn and Jacob Gagan, he is among the few retaining their spots from the 2022 Devils squad, ready to face the NSW Cup champions.
Reflecting on past challenges, Moseley highlighted the importance of a stable team lineup for their current efforts. “This year is a bit different to two years ago because we’ve been able to keep the same spine going into this game,” he stated, emphasizing the cohesive team dynamics bolstered by the regular inclusion of players from the NRL Dolphins.
For the Devils, the road to Sydney sees the introduction of James Flack and Zak McGuire, replacing the sidelined Tuki Simpkins and Julian Christian. Coach Dave Elliott aims to keep the team’s core intact, with the Devils determined to secure a win.
The Devils’ campaign concludes before they vacate for the Sydney Roosters, hosting the NRLW grand final. The occasion also connects Norths’ contingent through Jocelyn Kelleher (Roosters) and Georgia Hannaway (Sharks), former teammates now opposing each other in the women’s final.
As the Devils aim for a breakthrough in the championship, their determination and teamwork underpin their strategy to conquer the Newtown Jets and make history.
