Lamar Jackson Leads Tight MVP Race as NFL Season Nears Conclusion
As the 2024 NFL season enters its final weeks, the MVP race has tightened, with Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson emerging as a frontrunner. Jackson, who has thrown for 3,955 yards and 39 touchdowns while adding 852 rushing yards, has led the Ravens to an 11-5 record despite a defense and special teams unit ranked 24th in expected points added (EPA). His ability to elevate his team in critical moments has made him a favorite for the prestigious award.
Jackson’s competition includes Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen and Cincinnati Bengals‘ Joe Burrow. Allen, who has thrown for 3,731 yards and 28 touchdowns, has been instrumental in the Bills’ 13-3 record. Burrow, meanwhile, has thrown for 4,641 yards and 42 touchdowns, keeping the Bengals in playoff contention despite a 29th-ranked defense. Both quarterbacks have surged in recent weeks, making the MVP race one of the most competitive in recent memory.
Jackson’s case is bolstered by his consistency. He has met the MVP threshold of +0.27 EPA per play in 11 of his 16 starts, compared to eight for Allen and four for Burrow. The Ravens are 11-0 when Jackson produces at this level, underscoring his importance to the team.
