Lando Norris Secures Pole Position in Chaotic 2024 Brazilian Grand Prix Qualifying
Lando Norris will start the 2024 Brazilian Grand Prix from pole position after a highly unpredictable and chaotic qualifying session at the Interlagos circuit. Norris, driving for McLaren, will be joined on the front row by Mercedes driver George Russell.
The qualifying session was marked by multiple delays and red flags due to heavy rainfall and several crashes. Yuki Tsunoda of VCARB and Esteban Ocon of Alpine will form the second row, with Tsunoda achieving his highest-ever grid slot and Ocon securing his best starting position of the 2024 season.
Liam Lawson of VCARB will start in fifth place, ahead of Ferrari‘s Charles Leclerc. However, the grid is complicated by several incidents: Alex Albon, who qualified seventh, will miss the race due to damage sustained in a crash during qualifying that Williams could not repair in time.
Max Verstappen, the current F1 points leader, faces a challenging start after qualifying in 12th place and receiving a five-place grid penalty for using new engine components. This penalty drops him to 17th on the grid. Additionally, Verstappen’s qualifying was hindered by a poorly timed red flag following Lance Stroll’s crash in Q2.
Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll, both driving for Aston Martin, qualified in the top 10 but may face pit lane starts due to crashes during qualifying. Other notable positions include Oscar Piastri in eighth for McLaren, and Lewis Hamilton starting 14th for Mercedes.
