Logan Mailloux, the 21-year-old defenceman from Laval Rocket, had his NHL debut last night as the Montreal Canadiens made a significant recall decision.

Mailloux, who had played 70 games in the AHL this season, showcased a remarkable transition from his controversial past, having been selected 31st overall by the Canadiens.

The young player previously spent two seasons with the London Knights in the OHL and faced scrutiny after an incident in Sweden while on loan to SK Lejon during the OHL hiatus.

Despite court issues and a suspension by the OHL, Mailloux proved his mettle in the minor leagues and was finally given his shot in the NHL arena, stepping into the Bell Centre for the first time.

The Canadiens’ defensive lineup was strategically shuffled to accommodate Mailloux’s debut, with Lane Hutson and David Savard forming a notable pairing.

Noteworthy commotion surrounded the choice of defensive partners for Mailloux, with considerations for players like Mike Matheson, Jordan Harris, and Jayden Struble.

The absence of Xhekaj, alongside Mailloux’s impressive performance in the AHL, raised discussions about potential long-term defensive pairings and the Canadiens’ defensive strategies.

As Mailloux donned the iconic Canadiens jersey and set foot on the NHL ice, it marked a significant milestone in his career trajectory, underscored by the support from key figures like Gary Bettman and the management team.
