Martin Scorsese’s ‘The Saints’ Documentary Series Premieres on Fox Nation
Martin Scorsese, the acclaimed filmmaker known for his profound and philosophical approach to storytelling, has launched a new documentary series titled “Martin Scorsese Presents: The Saints.” This eight-part docudrama, which premiered on Fox Nation on November 17, 2024, delves into the lives and sacrifices of historical Catholic saints.
The series, created by Matti Leshem and written by Kent Jones, is directed by Elizabeth Chomko and narrated by Scorsese himself. It aims to go beyond traditional hagiography by portraying these saints as complex human beings with extraordinary challenges and problems. Each episode meticulously recreates the pilgrimage of a saint, combining scripted reenactments with scholarly interpretations.
The series features eight saints, including Joan of Arc, John the Baptist, Sebastian, Maximillian Kolbe, Francis of Assisi, Thomas Becket, Mary Magdalene, and Moses the Black. The first four episodes are being released in successive weeks, with the remaining four episodes scheduled to air during the spring Holy Season in 2025.
Scorsese, who has a long history of exploring religious themes in his films such as “The Last Temptation of Christ,” “Kundun,” and “Silence,” brings his signature cinematic gravitas to this project. He expressed his excitement about the series, stating that he has lived with the stories of the saints for most of his life and is eager to share these stories of faith, kindness, selflessness, and sacrifice with audiences.
The series is available for streaming on the Fox Nation website and app, accessible on various devices including Roku, Apple TV, Samsung Smart TV, Amazon FireTV, and Android TV.
