Mattel Apologizes for Accidentally Printing Porn URL on ‘Wicked’ Doll Packaging
Mattel, the renowned toy manufacturer, has found itself in a contentious situation after accidentally printing a URL to a pornographic website on the packaging of its ‘Wicked‘ dolls. The dolls, which are based on characters from the Broadway musical and movie ‘Wicked,’ feature the main witches Elphaba and Glinda.
The error occurred when Mattel intended to include a URL directing customers to a website related to the ‘Wicked’ movie. However, instead of the correct URL, the packaging displayed “www.wicked.com,” which leads to an adult content site. The correct website for the movie is “www.wickedmovie.com.”[1]
This mistake has sparked significant outrage among parents, many of whom have expressed their concern and frustration online. Mattel has acknowledged the misprint, which primarily affected dolls sold in the U.S.A., and has issued an apology.
A representative from Mattel stated that the company deeply regrets the error and is taking immediate action to ensure that no future dolls will have the incorrect URL on their packaging. Mattel advises parents to either discard the product packaging or obscure the link to prevent any further issues. Customers with questions are encouraged to contact Mattel’s customer service for more information.[1]
