Melbourne Players Eye Trades This Offseason
There’s some big news in the AFL world as we head toward the end of the season. Melbourne Demons’ utility player Alex Neal-Bullen has reportedly asked for a trade, looking to move back to his home state of South Australia.
Neal-Bullen, who is 28 and has a contract running until 2026, is said to be keen on this move simply to be closer to family. This isn’t about any issues with the Demons’ performance; it’s more about a personal desire.
Interestingly, the Adelaide Crows are aware of Neal-Bullen’s intentions but seem fine letting the discussions happen with Melbourne first. Meanwhile, Port Adelaide seems more focused on keeping their draft picks intact rather than pushing for a trade right now.
In other news, Western Bulldogs’ Jack Macrae is also in the spotlight. Having played just 16 games this season, he’s had a chat in mind with coach Luke Beveridge about his standing in the team’s plans for next year.
At 30 years old, Macrae isn’t certain if he’ll stay with the Bulldogs or look for opportunities elsewhere, but he definitely prefers to stay in Melbourne if he does decide to move on. He’s got a contract until 2027, but time will tell if he’ll be wearing new colors next season.
Some speculation has popped up regarding potential moves to other Melbourne clubs like Carlton, Collingwood, or even Geelong. However, as Macrae considers his options, he might not be too keen on the longer commute to Geelong.
