Missouri State Football Earns Bowl Game Spot After Waiver Approval
SPRINGFIELD, Missouri — Missouri State football has officially secured a spot in a bowl game following a successful waiver from the NCAA. This announcement came on Dec. 1, 2025, at the conclusion of the regular season on Nov. 29.
The Bears wrapped up their season with a 7-5 record under head coach Ryan Beard, who transitioned to this role after serving as the team’s defensive coordinator in 2022. Athletic director Patrick Ransdell had previously disclosed that the university sought a waiver due to their recent shift to Conference USA, making them initially ineligible for postseason play.
Support from Missouri lawmakers played a significant role in the NCAA’s decision. U.S. Sen. Eric Schmitt and U.S. Rep. Eric Burlison urged the NCAA to approve the waiver, highlighting the athletes’ on-field performance. “The university has done everything asked of it and more,” Schmitt stated, emphasizing the need for fairness for student athletes.
Burlison echoed this sentiment, saying, “These student-athletes have earned their opportunity on the field and should not be sidelined by an outdated rule alone.” Missouri State’s waiver was approved alongside a similar request from fellow Conference USA newcomer Delaware.
Bowl pairings, dates, and locations will be revealed later. The official Bowl Selection Show is scheduled for Sunday, Dec. 7. Fans of Missouri State can look out for ticket information as soon as the bowl destination is announced.
In their first season in Conference USA, the Bears finished tied for fourth in the league with a record of 5-3, demonstrating a strong performance in a competitive field.
