Nathan Aspinall Aims for Quarter-Finals After Overcoming Injury Setback
Nathan Aspinall, a prominent figure in the world of professional darts, has expressed confidence in regaining his competitive edge ahead of his upcoming match against Ryan Joyce. This encounter is set to take place at the BoyleSports World Grand Prix on Wednesday, and Aspinall is eager to secure a spot in the quarter-finals.
Aspinall’s journey to the second round was marked by a thrilling victory over Ryan Searle during the tournament’s opening night. This match represented Aspinall’s first televised appearance since July, as he has been recovering from a wrist injury that affected his performance at the World Matchplay.
Reflecting on his triumphant return in Leicester, where he averaged a remarkable 107 in the decisive set, Aspinall remarked on the personal significance of the win. “It was my first game back on TV since my injury, so that meant a lot to me,” he stated, acknowledging the challenges he faced over recent months.
Aspinall, a runner-up in the 2022 World Grand Prix, further noted the significance of the crowd’s support during his match at the Mattioli Arena. “The crowd were amazing,” the Stockport native said, appreciating their encouragement. He mentioned battling moments of doubt during his time away from the sport but emphasized how such support rekindled his motivation. “The reception I got was unbelievable,” he added.
Should Aspinall defeat Joyce, he is set to compete against either Rob Cross or Martin Schindler in the subsequent round. The event will also feature reigning champion Luke Humphries taking on Germany’s Ricardo Pietreczko and a clash between Jonny Clayton and Ross Smith.
The tournament is available for viewing on Sky Sports in the UK, with global broadcasts through the PDC‘s partners, including DAZN and Viaplay, albeit with territorial restrictions.
