NBA Trade Deadline Rumors: Nets Engaged in Conversations as Both Buyers and Sellers
As the NBA trade deadline approaches, the Brooklyn Nets find themselves engaged in conversations both as buyers and sellers, according to reports from Brian Windhorst. While no deals have been finalized yet, there is significant interest in the Nets’ 3-and-D specialists, Dorian Finney-Smith and Royce O’Neale.
On the buying side, the Cleveland Cavaliers have their sights set on Finney-Smith and O’Neale, along with Nets guard Lonnie Walker IV. The Boston Celtics have also expressed interest in acquiring Finney-Smith, who is currently playing on a one-year, vet minimum deal.
If the Cavs are to make an offer, it remains unclear who they would include in the trade. However, previous reports have suggested that the Nets have shown interest in Cavs forward Dean Wade, a 27-year-old 3-and-D type who is younger and more affordable than Finney-Smith and O’Neale.
Additionally, there are rumors that the Cavs are willing to part ways with Caris LeVert, who previously played with the Nets. LeVert is in the first year of a two-year, $32 million contract.
Another team in talks with the Nets is the Milwaukee Bucks. They have reportedly expressed interest in acquiring Dennis Smith Jr. and Royce O’Neale in exchange for MarJon Beauchamp and Pat Connaughton. The trade would address the Bucks’ need for improved bench defense, while giving the Nets a young player in Beauchamp and additional draft picks.
The NBA trade deadline often sees deals involving players who are not in teams’ primary rotations, and this year seems to be no exception. As teams explore their options, it remains to be seen which deals will come to fruition before the deadline.
