Nintendo Unveils New Gameplay for Pokémon Legends: Z-A in Direct Presentation

BELLEVUE, Wash. — March 27, 2025 — The Pokémon Company International, in partnership with Nintendo, unveiled fresh gameplay details for the highly anticipated Pokémon Legends: Z-A during today’s Nintendo Direct presentation. The new trailer showcased the Z-A Royale, an exhilarating competition that kicks off at dusk in Lumiose City, introducing a battle zone enveloped in futuristic holographic technology.
As night envelops Lumiose City, trainers can engage in the Z-A Royale, competing against one another from dusk until dawn. Participants start at Rank Z and battle their way through the ranks, with the ultimate goal of achieving Rank A. Those who reach this prestigious level may even have a wish granted in-game — a reward that underscores the competitive stakes involved.
Players will engage not only in battles but also explore various wild zones during the day to catch and train Pokémon, preparing for the fierce contests that await them at night. Timing and strategic gameplay are crucial, as unexpected attacks can shift the tide of battle, while evading stronger opponents is equally vital.
“The key to succeeding in the Z-A Royale lies in maximizing the potential of both day and night,” said a spokesperson from The Pokémon Company. “Players must adapt their strategies and strengthen their teams to conquer challenges awaiting them in Lumiose City.”
Pokémon Legends: Z-A is set to be released on the Nintendo Switch family of systems in late 2025, with more information available through the official Pokémon website and on their YouTube channel.
During the Nintendo Direct event, additional new games slated for release in 2025 were announced, including Rhythm Heaven Groove and Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream. The presentation highlighted Nintendo’s commitment to delivering unique gaming experiences to audiences worldwide.
Fans were also teased with a presentation set to reveal more about the Nintendo Switch 2 on April 2, 2025. “This presentation will share exciting advancements and features of our upcoming platform,” noted a Nintendo representative.
