Oren Burks Signs Two-Year Deal with Philadelphia Eagles

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. — The Philadelphia Eagles have announced the signing of linebacker Oren Burks to a two-year deal worth $5 million, marking a significant change for the team as they navigate their roster for the upcoming season.
Burks, a pivotal contributor during the team’s recent Super Bowl run, joins the Eagles just a month after securing championship glory. The former Green Bay Packers player was initially waived during the 53-man roster cuts but quickly rebounded by signing with the Eagles’ practice squad.
After a rigorous training camp and preseason, he earned a spot on the active roster and made a substantial impact. In a reserve role, Burks compiled 41 tackles, including 20 solo stops, along with one pass defended during the regular season across 17 games.
His contributions intensified in the postseason when he recorded 25 tackles (16 solo) and delivered 1.0 sack along with one pass defended through the Eagles’ playoff journey. Notably, Burks’ role expanded dramatically following an injury to starting inside linebacker Nakobe Dean, who suffered a season-ending torn patellar tendon in Week 16.
Stepping up to fill the void, Burks started in all three playoff games, contributing significantly with 20 tackles. In the Super Bowl against the Kansas City Chiefs, he wrapped up his impressive postseason performance with five tackles, showcasing his readiness to rise in critical moments.
The Eagles’ decision to bring Burks into a more prominent role underscores the team’s commitment to fortifying their defense as they prepare for the next season.
