President Ramaphosa Sets Date for 2024 General Elections
President Cyril Ramaphosa has officially announced that the 2024 General National and Provincial elections in South Africa will take place on the 29th of May.
In adherence to the Constitution and the Electoral act of 1998, President Ramaphosa consulted with the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) before proclaiming the election date.
During a meeting with the Provincial Premiers and the IEC, the state of readiness for the General elections was discussed, ensuring a smooth electoral process.
The 2024 elections mark a significant milestone as they coincide with South Africa’s celebration of 30 years of freedom and democracy, reflecting the nation’s journey towards political maturity.
President Ramaphosa emphasized the importance of citizen participation in the democratic process, urging all eligible voters to exercise their constitutional right to vote.
In his statement, President Ramaphosa called for peaceful campaigning and compliance with the law, highlighting the importance of upholding democratic principles.
For unregistered voters, the President encouraged the use of the online registration platform to ensure inclusion in the electoral process.
The proclamation formalizing the election date will be issued in due course, as South Africa prepares for this historic moment in its democratic history.
