HYDERABAD, India – Ram Charan‘s latest film, ‘Game Changer,’ has sparked a wave of mixed reviews despite a stellar box office opening. The film, directed by Shankar, marks his debut in Telugu cinema and features Ram Charan in a dual role as an IAS officer and an activist. Released on January 11, 2025, the movie has already grossed ₹186 crore worldwide, with ₹51 crore net in India on its opening day alone.

The film’s narrative revolves around Ram Nandan, a district collector in Vishakhapatnam, who takes on corrupt politicians and electoral malpractices. The first half of the movie focuses on Ram Charan’s action-packed persona, while the second half shifts to a politically charged social message. Critics have noted the film’s lack of originality and coherence, despite its stylistic flourishes and vibrant musical numbers.

Ram Charan’s performance has been widely praised, particularly his portrayal of the activist Appanna. Co-star Kiara Advani plays Deepika, a character who primarily appears in song sequences and romantic interludes. The film also features SJ Suryah as the antagonist, Bobbili Mopidevi, whose over-the-top performance has drawn mixed reactions.

Despite the film’s shortcomings, fans have shown overwhelming support. A massive crowd gathered outside Ram Charan’s home in Jubilee Hills, Hyderabad, to celebrate the film’s release. Videos shared on social media show fans waving flags, holding placards, and bursting crackers. Ram Charan greeted them from his balcony, gesturing for them to stay safe while accepting their gifts and arranging lunch for the crowd.

The film’s success comes amidst a tragic incident at the premiere of Ram Charan’s cousin Allu Arjun‘s ‘Pushpa 2: The Rule,’ where a stampede resulted in one fatality. ‘Game Changer’ has managed to avoid such controversies, focusing instead on its box office triumph and Ram Charan’s growing fanbase.

Produced by Dil Raju‘s Sri Venkateswara Creations, ‘Game Changer’ also stars Anjali, Srikanth, Jayaram, and Sunil in key roles. While the film has been criticized for its lack of logic and coherence, it continues to draw audiences, particularly in Telugu-speaking regions. Whether it will sustain its momentum remains to be seen, but for now, Ram Charan’s star power is undeniable.
