Ravens Rally Late for Field Goal Amid Controversial Penalty
Baltimore, Maryland
The Baltimore Ravens faced the Minnesota Vikings this week in a tightly contested matchup. The first half saw limited scoring, with the Vikings holding a narrow 10-9 lead as both teams headed to the locker room.
A pivotal moment came when Minnesota’s Dallas Turner was penalized for roughing the passer after sacking Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson. This controversial call occurred shortly before halftime and set the Ravens up for a key score.
After a Vikings field goal, the Ravens took possession with just 30 seconds remaining in the half, starting from their own 25-yard line. Jackson quickly completed two passes, advancing the offense to the Vikings’ 25-yard line. As time dwindled, Turner sacked Jackson, which would have pushed Baltimore back 10 yards. However, the roughing the passer penalty changed the play, giving the Ravens a first down at the Vikings’ 12-yard line.
Ravens kicker Tyler Loop capitalized on the opportunity, successfully converting the field goal as the half ended. Michael Strahan, a Fox Sports analyst, criticized the officiating during the network’s halftime show, saying, “That was a bad call. At what point do we realize quarterbacks play football too?”
By NFL rules, the penalty was correctly issued as Turner landed with his full body weight on Jackson, a decision that has been automatic in recent years. Nonetheless, the call frustrated both players and fans alike, turning what appeared to be a clean sack into a scoring chance for Baltimore.
The Vikings remain focused on the second half, determined to push through the setback and secure a win.
