Rebecca Gibney Inducted Into Hall Of Fame

Beloved actress Rebecca Gibney received a prestigious honor as she was inducted into the Hall of Fame during the 2024 TV Week Logie Awards. This celebration recognized her incredible contributions to television over the last 40 years. The moment was made even more special when her son, Zac, introduced her on stage.

In her heartfelt acceptance speech, Rebecca shared her journey, recalling her struggles as a 16-year-old dealing with anxiety and body image issues. She expressed disbelief that she would someday stand on such a stage, saying, ‘If someone had told 16-year-old me… that one day I would be standing on the stage with this award, she wouldn’t have believed it.’

Rebecca took a moment to thank the Australian public for their unwavering support throughout her career. She also acknowledged the writers and fellow actors she has collaborated with, like Roger Simpson, who worked on Halifax f.p., and Bevan Lee from Packed to the Rafters. She emphasized the importance of teamwork in television, stating, ‘No actor receives an award by themselves.’

During her speech, she fondly remembered advice from the late actor Maurie Fields, who advised, ‘Just show up on time, know your lines, and don’t be a dick.’ This motto has guided her throughout her successful career.

Rebecca expressed deep gratitude for her husband, Richard Bell, who has stood by her side for almost 25 years, and her son, Zac, whom she described as ‘the best kind of joy.’ She also honored her mother, Shirley, for teaching her the values of forgiveness, kindness, and respect.

As only the fourth woman ever to be inducted into the TV Week Logies Hall of Fame, Rebecca proudly acknowledged her achievement, expressing hope that many more women will follow in her footsteps.
