Rob Lowe Golf Swing Drill With Rod Pampling

LOS ANGELES, Calif. — Actor Rob Lowe has credited a simple golf drill from professional golfer Rod Pampling for transforming his ability to hit the driver, offering hope to amateur golfers struggling with their swing.

Lowe, an avid golfer, shared the tip during a recent Champions Tour pro-am event. The drill focuses on improving shoulder tilt during the swing, a common issue for amateurs. “What I like is that you don’t even have to be on the range to do it,” Lowe said. “Frankly, the best place to do it — and I say this as a vain, narcissistic actor — is in front of the mirror.”

The drill involves standing in a golf posture with the driver’s head on the ground and the shaft pointing straight up. The golfer extends their lead arm and places their hand on the grip’s butt, then swings the trail arm back while keeping the lead shoulder higher than the trail shoulder. This motion helps create the proper angle of attack for driving the ball farther and straighter.

Pampling, a three-time PGA Tour winner, emphasized the importance of shoulder tilt for effective driving. “Lots of amateurs struggle to get the proper tilt away from the target and instead keep their shoulders level throughout the swing,” he explained. “This drill helps ingrain the feel of the correct position.”

Lowe, who has lived in Montecito, California, for over two decades, also reflected on how the area has changed since high-profile neighbors like Prince Harry, Meghan Markle, and Oprah Winfrey moved in. “They definitely have brought a lot of attention to my sleepy little town,” Lowe told E! News. “Once the royals move into your neighborhood, the neighborhood is never going to be the same.”

Harry and Meghan’s $29 million Montecito estate, featuring nine bedrooms and 16 bathrooms, has become a focal point for both admiration and criticism. While some neighbors appreciate the boost in property values, others have expressed frustration with increased traffic and media attention.

For golfers, however, Lowe’s newfound driving prowess serves as a reminder that even celebrities face challenges on the course. “The golf ball doesn’t care who you are when you’re swinging the club,” Lowe said. “The only thing that matters is making the right adjustments.”
