Rohit Sharma Struggles Again Against Left-Handed Bowlers

New Delhi, India – Mumbai Indians (MI) opening batter Rohit Sharma faced another setback against left-arm seamers in Match 63 of the Indian Premier League 2025 (IPL 2025) on Wednesday, May 21, at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Rohit was dismissed for just five runs, falling victim to Mustafizur Rahman.
Rohit edged a delivery from the left-arm seamer to wicketkeeper Abhishek Porel, prompting a quick strike from Delhi Capitals (DC), who opted to bowl first. This marks Rohit’s second consecutive dismissal against a left-arm bowler this season, having previously scored only seven runs against Arshad Khan from Gujarat Titans (GT).
This season, Rohit has been dismissed four times by left-arm seamers, with his first dismissal occurring against Chennai Super Kings‘ Khaleel Ahmed. He also recorded a score of 17 against Yash Dayal from Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). Overall, his average against left-arm seamers this season stands at 16.50, making him the most dismissed batter by this type of bowler in IPL 2025.
In his IPL career, Rohit has been dismissed 33 times by left-arm seam bowlers, averaging 24.18 in those encounters. Following his dismissal against RCB, MI head coach Mahela Jayawardene addressed Rohit’s struggles with left-arm seamers. “For right-handed batsmen, left-armers pose a natural challenge for many opening batsmen. It’s been an ongoing scenario in cricket, creating an angle and space. Rohit is experienced and has been practicing hard to counter this,” Jayawardene said during the post-match press conference.
As MI continues its campaign in the IPL, all eyes will be on how Rohit Sharma addresses this recurring issue.
