Rohit Sharma Yashasvi Jaiswal Test Cricket

In a record-breaking display during the second Test against Bangladesh in Kanpur, India’s opening pair, Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal, achieved the fastest team fifty in the history of Test cricket. The Indian duo reached the 50-run mark in just 18 deliveries, surpassing the previous record set by England earlier this year.

On Day 4 of the match, after restricting Bangladesh to 233 runs, the Indian openers came out with aggressive intent. Jaiswal was particularly impressive, scoring 30 runs off just 13 balls, while Rohit contributed 19 off 16 balls. Together, they overtook England’s previous best of 26 balls achieved against the West Indies at Trent Bridge.

The Indian innings commenced with Jaiswal striking three consecutive boundaries in the first over bowled by Hasan Mahmud. Rohit followed with back-to-back sixes, further accelerating the run rate. The third over, the most expensive, saw Mahmud concede 22 runs, including two fours and two sixes.

Their partnership was eventually broken in the fourth over when Mehidy Hasan Miraz dismissed Rohit. Jaiswal, however, continued his impressive form, securing his second half-century of the series with 72 runs off 51 balls. By the time the second session concluded, India was at 138/2 with Shubman Gill and an unnamed partner at the crease.

Earlier in the day, Mominul Haque had been the standout performer for Bangladesh, remaining unbeaten on 107 as they finished their innings at 233. Indian bowlers Jasprit Bumrah, Akash Deep, Ravichandran Ashwin, and Mohammed Siraj showcased effective performances, with Bumrah taking three wickets.
