Rumors Surround Meryl Streep and Martin Short’s Possible Romance

Speculation about a possible romantic relationship between acclaimed actors Meryl Streep and Martin Short has intensified following a recent public appearance in Santa Monica, California. The “Only Murders in the Building” co-stars were seen arriving for dinner at the popular Italian restaurant Giorgio Baldi, notorious for drawing high-profile clientele, on Wednesday evening.

Both actors appeared to be in high spirits, with Streep, aged 75, leading the way in a stylish blue and white blouse and navy blue trousers, complemented by creme-colored flats. Her dinner companion, Short, aged 74, opted for a smart gray suit paired with a white button-up shirt and black sneakers.

The duo drove off together in Streep’s white sedan, further fueling rumors that have been circulating since their joint appearance at the 2024 Golden Globes earlier in the year. Despite these rumors, representatives for Short have steadfastly maintained that the pair are “nothing more” than close friends, as reported by People.

On a recent episode of Bill Maher‘s “Club Random” podcast, Short addressed the rumors, emphasizing the depth of their friendship, saying, “We are very close friends.” Nonetheless, public appearances, such as a dinner outing and a Season 4 premiere party for their Hulu series, have kept the intrigue alive.

Eyewitnesses at the premiere noted the palpable camaraderie between the two actors, describing how they stayed close to each other throughout the evening. “They walked in holding hands and seemed to be genuinely enjoying each other’s company,” disclosed an insider to Page Six. “It’s got to be more than a ‘showmance.’ There is definitely something there,” they added.

As rumors of a romance swirl, it is also noted that Streep separated from her husband of 40 years six years ago, as reported last year, while Short has been single since the death of his wife, Nancy Dolman, in 2010 after three decades of marriage.

Adding another layer to the spectacle, the two were seen dining alongside esteemed director Rob Marshall and his partner, producer John DeLuca.
