Saks Fifth Avenue Cancels Iconic Holiday Light Show for 2024
Saks Fifth Avenue, a staple of New York City‘s holiday season, has announced that it will not be hosting its annual holiday light show this year. The decision, confirmed by a Saks Fifth Avenue spokesperson, is part of a broader change in the company’s approach to its holiday windows and celebrations.
The light show, which has been a beloved tradition for both locals and tourists, typically features a synchronized display of lights timed to music on the facade of the Saks Fifth Avenue building on Fifth Avenue. However, this year, the company is opting to celebrate its 100th anniversary by honoring the architectural significance of its iconic building instead. The facade will still be elegantly illuminated, and the holiday windows will be framed to highlight the fashion for which Saks Fifth Avenue is known.
Despite the cancellation of the light show, Saks Fifth Avenue will continue to display its festive holiday windows, which are set to debut later this month. The “Gift of Delight” holiday campaign will feature pieces from top luxury brands set against colorful snowflake garments, dichroic vinyl, and silver harlequin flooring. Additionally, the building’s facade will be illuminated, and “magical jingles” will play throughout the holiday season.
The decision has elicited mixed reactions from the public. Some have expressed disappointment, noting that the light show was a highlight of their holiday season, while others prefer a more low-key holiday experience reminiscent of simpler times in New York City.
