Sam Leavitt Arizona State Football Donation

TEMPE, Ariz. — Arizona State quarterback Sam Leavitt has made a significant contribution to the community by donating $15,000 to the Pat Tillman Foundation. The donation was made on May 24, 2025, at a football camp in Chandler.

The Pat Tillman Foundation honors the former Arizona State and Arizona Cardinals safety, who died in Afghanistan. It supports military service members and their families through academic scholarships and leadership opportunities.

Leavitt’s decision to give back stems from his appreciation for the community that supports him. “I just want to give back to the community and the people that support me,” Leavitt said. “It’s a big thing to me and my family. I’ve got a cousin who’s a Green Beret. It means a lot to me to be able to help kids.”

The foundation, which has awarded $37 million to over 900 Tillman scholars, expressed gratitude for Leavitt’s donation. “We’re so incredibly grateful to Sam Leavitt for his donation,” said the Pat Tillman Foundation in a statement. “This donation will help empower present and future Tillman Scholars as they pursue a higher education degree.”

Leavitt, who is entering his second season, previously showcased his commitment to community service by donating proceeds from his merchandise to support his teammates at ASU. Last season, he threw for 2,885 yards and 24 touchdowns, helping lead the Sun Devils to a Big 12 title and the College Football Playoff quarterfinals.

Pat Tillman, who walked away from a promising NFL career to enlist in the Army post-9/11, left a lasting legacy at ASU and beyond. Arizona State has retired both Tillman’s No. 42 and the Cardinals’ No. 40 jerseys in his honor.

Leavitt’s actions highlight a culture of giving within the Arizona State football program, one that aims to honor the sacrifices of veterans while empowering future leaders.
