Shane Whitlock Triumphs Again in Jeopardy! Quarterfinals on February 26

NEW YORK, N.Y. — In a thrilling quarterfinal match on February 26, 2025, radiologist Shane Whitlock emerged victorious in the latest installment of the Jeopardy! Invitational Tournament, answering the Final Jeopardy clue correctly, while his fellow competitors struggled.
The Final Jeopardy category was ‘Presidential Elections,’ featuring a challenging clue: ‘The only 2 Democrats to be elected President between James Buchanan in 1856 and FDR in 1932.’ With the stakes high, competitors Claire Sattler from New York and Ben Chan from Wisconsin were also vying for the title as the tournament heats up.
Shane, who entered the Final Jeopardy round with $14,700, was the only contestant to respond correctly to the clue, answering, ‘Who is Grover Cleveland & Woodrow Wilson?’ His timely wager of $6,000 lifted his total to $20,700, securing his lead and the win.
Ben Chan had a strong performance in the second round, racking up $18,395 before betting on the Final Jeopardy clue. However, his response of ‘Garfield and Wilson’ was only partially correct, costing him $3,694 and leaving him with $14,701.
Unfortunately for Claire Sattler, she did not get the chance to participate in the Final Jeopardy round, finishing her game with a total of $0.
Historically, Grover Cleveland was the first Democrat to assume the presidency after the Civil War, serving two nonconsecutive terms. Woodrow Wilson later served as president during the Progressive Era from 1913 to 1921.
This match continues to highlight the increased difficulty of the Final Jeopardy clues in the ongoing Invitational Tournament, raising the challenge for contestants as they strive for victory.
