Sheraton Crossroads Hotel Set for Controlled Demolition in Mahwah

MAHWAH, NJ — The Sheraton Crossroads Hotel in Mahwah will be demolished in a controlled implosion on Saturday at 7:30 a.m. This 22-story building, a local landmark since 1987, is located on International Boulevard near NJ-17 and I-287.
The implosion will be streamed live through CBS News New York. Viewers are reminded that the site is closed to non-credentialed personnel, and attempts to access it from various nearby roads will be prohibited. Security personnel, including police, will enforce these restrictions.
While the town advises against approaching the site, officials acknowledge that some areas will provide a partial view of the implosion. However, these locations will be limited to pedestrians only, as vehicle access will be restricted.
The demolition is not organized by Mahwah Township but is governed by the New Jersey Department of Labor, along with various contractors and law enforcement. According to township officials, road closures will be implemented starting from 5 a.m. on Saturday, and streets like Stag Hill Road, Johnson Avenue, and South Street, among others, will be affected.
Parking will not be allowed on the shoulders of Routes 17 or 287, and violators may face towing. Just before the event, police will halt highway traffic near the hotel to ensure safety. This stop may last from five to fifteen minutes post-implosion.
The Sheraton, known for its distinctive glass facade, hosted many events over the years, including weddings and dances. The building will be replaced by two warehouses, though developers are exploring alternative uses for the site.
