Sir Ian McKellen, the renowned actor, was rushed to the hospital after a dramatic fall during a performance of Player Kings at the historic Noël Coward Theatre in London.

The 85-year-old McKellen, known for his iconic roles such as Gandalf in The Lord of the Rings and Magneto in the X-Men movies, was portraying the character of John Falstaff in a fight scene from Shakespeare‘s Henry IV, Parts One and Two.

During a pivotal battle scene involving the Prince of Wales and Henry Percy, McKellen lost his footing and tumbled off the front of the stage, prompting an immediate response from the theatre staff.

The audience, taken aback by the unexpected turn of events, was swiftly evacuated from the theatre, and the evening show had to be canceled as a result of the fall.

One eyewitness, Sandro Trapani, described the incident as ‘very shocking’ and expressed her hopes for McKellen’s well-being, noting that the actor remained conscious and alert, calling out for assistance.

McKellen, a veteran of the stage and screen, boasts a storied career with a repertoire that includes Shakespearean classics like Richard II, Macbeth, and King Lear, along with his acclaimed portrayals of Magneto and Gandalf.

Player Kings, a production directed by Robert Icke, had kicked off its 12-week West End run in April, featuring McKellen in the role of John Falstaff, with plans to move to other cities such as Bristol, Birmingham, Norwich, and Newcastle.

The actor, who has received accolades such as the prestigious Olivier Awards, is expected to make a full recovery following this incident, reassuring fans and well-wishers with his resilience and spirit.
