South Carolina Baseball Undefeated Ahead of Clemson Showdown

COLUMBIA, S.C. — The University of South Carolina baseball team has continued its winning streak, improving to 8-0 following a perfect week of play. The Gamecocks swept a three-game series against Milwaukee and secured victories over Winthrop and Queens.

South Carolina’s record-tying start is marked by exceptional pitching and a powerful offense. The Gamecocks rank among the top in the Southeastern Conference, boasting 99 strikeouts in 69 innings pitched while limiting opponents to a .148 batting average.

This week, the Gamecocks achieved consistent offensive output, highlighted by Jase Woita’s grand slam in a 5-2 victory over Milwaukee. Woita’s two-out shot in the sixth inning was pivotal and marked his first home run as a Gamecock. He is currently hitting .357, with six runs batted in.

The Gamecocks showcased strong individual performances as well. Ethan Petry leads the team with a .444 batting average and nine RBIs. Meanwhile, Brendan Sweeney leads the SEC with three saves, having picked up two this week in wins against Winthrop and Milwaukee. Sweeney’s impressive stats include three strikeouts while allowing only one hit and walk in three innings.

Matthew Becker has been a key player on the pitching front, demonstrating an impressive command on the mound. In his last game against Milwaukee, Becker struck out eight batters and did not allow a single walk, maintaining a 1.59 ERA across 11.1 innings pitched.

As the Gamecocks prepare for their upcoming match against rival Clemson, fans can look forward to an exciting weekend of baseball. The series against Clemson begins Friday at 7 p.m. at Doug Kingsmore Stadium, where the gates will open at 5:30 p.m.
