Squid Game Season 3 Release Date Announced, Filmed Back-to-Back with Season 2
Netflix‘s global phenomenon ‘Squid Game‘ is set to return for its third season sooner than expected. Creator Hwang Dong-hyuk revealed that Season 3 will likely premiere in summer or fall 2025, following the release of Season 2 in late 2024. The announcement comes as a relief to fans, who endured a three-year wait between the first two seasons.
Hwang confirmed that Seasons 2 and 3 were filmed back-to-back, allowing for a quicker turnaround. ‘At this point, anything I might say is going to be a spoiler, so I want to be cautious,’ Hwang said in a recent interview. ‘But what I can say is, after Season 2 launches, I believe we will be announcing the launch date for Season 3 soon.’
The news has sparked speculation about whether Netflix will release all episodes at once or split the season into multiple parts, as it has done with other popular shows like ‘Stranger Things‘ and ‘The Witcher.’ Fans are hopeful for a full-season drop, given the intense cliffhanger ending of Season 2.
Season 2 of ‘Squid Game’ introduced new layers to the story, including the backstory of the enigmatic Front Man, played by Lee Byung-hun. The character, who also appeared as Player 001, added depth to the series’ exploration of morality and survival. ‘The most important thing in bringing this character to life was incessantly discussing the expression in each scene with the director,’ Byung-hun said.
As anticipation builds for Season 3, fans are eager to see how the story of Seong Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae) will unfold. The series, which became a cultural sensation after its 2021 debut, continues to captivate audiences with its high-stakes games and moral dilemmas.
