Teenage Sensation Moses Itauma Claims WBO Inter-Continental Heavyweight Championship in Stunning Victory
British boxing prodigy Moses Itauma delivered a spectacular performance, securing a remarkable victory over German fighter Iija Mezencev to claim the WBO Inter-Continental Heavyweight championship in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
The 19-year-old Itauma, with an unblemished record of 9-0, demonstrated his mettle from the opening bell by relentlessly pursuing Mezencev, unleashing fierce combinations with precision.
In a dramatic first round, Itauma sent Mezencev to the canvas, but it was judged as a push rather than a knockdown by the British star.
Undeterred, Itauma swiftly finished the fight in the second round with a devastating right hook that floored Mezencev, leaving him visibly dazed and unable to continue.
Following his victory, Itauma expressed his readiness for more challenges, stating, ‘I’m ready, (this is the) first (title) of many… Anyone can get it. Everybody that I call out doesn’t want to fight. Now that I have this title with me, I am happy with anyone.’
Back in January, Itauma had voiced his ambitions of emulating the legendary Mike Tyson‘s success by becoming the youngest heavyweight champion in history, setting the stage for a promising career in the sport.
Meanwhile, the evening also witnessed former light-heavyweight champion Sergey Kovalev facing defeat at the hands of Robin Safar in a cruiserweight bout, potentially marking the end of Kovalev’s illustrious career.
