Tornado Devastation Strikes oThongathi as Eastern Cape Floods Claim More Lives
A destructive tornado wreaked havoc in the town of oThongathi located in the province of KwaZulu-Natal, leaving a trail of destruction in its wake. Homes were torn apart and structures collapsed in the aftermath of the natural disaster.
Search and rescue teams swiftly mobilized in response to the emergency, working tirelessly to assess the extent of the damage and provide assistance to those affected by the tornado’s wrath.
While the residents of oThongathi grapple with the aftermath of the tornado, the Eastern Cape province faces its own set of challenges as the death toll continues to climb following severe flooding in the region.
The National Sea Rescue Institute, in collaboration with the South African Police Service (SAPS), Police Dive Unit, and Police K9 Search and Rescue units, launched a joint search operation for a 20-year-old man who was swept away in the Dawn area of East London over the weekend.
Tragically, the Buffalo City Metro authorities confirmed on Monday afternoon that the lifeless body of the young man was located, further underscoring the devastating impact of the recent weather-related incidents in the Eastern Cape.
