UGC-NET Exam Cancelled Amidst Suspected Compromise: Fresh Examination Announced by Centre
The Ministry of Education in India has taken a significant step by cancelling the UGC-NET examination due to suspected compromises that could have affected its integrity. This decision follows inputs received from the National Cyber Crime Threat Analytics Unit of the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C). The notice released by the ministry also announced that a fresh examination will be conducted, the dates for which will be separately communicated.
One of the key events surrounding this examination cancellation is the ongoing row over the NEET-UG 2024 exam. The Supreme Court has been hearing the case related to alleged irregularities in the medical entrance exam, which saw an unprecedented number of students securing the top rank. The education ministry had previously stated that grace marks awarded to over 1,500 candidates in the NEET-UG exam would be revoked, with a retest scheduled for June 23.
Following the cancellation of the UGC-NET exam, voices of criticism and questions emerged from various political figures. Leaders such as Akhilesh Yadav from the Samajwadi Party and Mallikarjun Kharge from the Congress took to social media platforms to express their discontent with the situation. The controversy surrounding these examinations has drawn attention to the need for accountability and transparency in the education sector.
